Ariel Coro shared money-saving apps on Univision's Primero Impacto, including Gas Buddy, Grocery IQ, RetailMeNot, and GoodRx for prescriptions.
I was invited recently by Primer Impacto, Univision Network’s Top-Rated Newsmagazine to comment on apps that can be used to save money. Primer Impacto is one of Univision’s highest rated news programs and has received dozens of Emmys and an Edward. R. Murrow award. I was interviewed by veteran journalist Ricardo Arambarri. It was pretty cool since he also interviewed me when I launched my book on Despierta America. Here are some of the apps that I mentioned on the show:Gas Buddy: For many years this has been the leading app to find the best gas prices around. When prices went crazy around 2008-09, this was the app that I used to save hundreds of dollars in gasoline in California. Every cent counts and it’s always useful to have this app on your phone.Grocery IQ: Are you still clipping grocery coupons the old-fashioned way? If that’s the case, you might be missing out on the convenience of digital coupons. This app is basically a shopping list that helps you save on the items you buy every day. You can use the camera of your phone as a barcode scanner to make sure you remember that can of beans you always forget at the supermarket. Once the list is ready, you can share it with family by e-mail and you can even have different people in your house adding items to the shopping list via their own phones. My favorite part is that you can browse through the coupons and easily add them to your shopping list to make sure you don’t forget to save.RetailMe Not: This is the mother of all savings apps for your shopping. You shouldn’t go to the mall without it. You can browse through stores, restaurants and it will keep you up to date with the latest specials. It has gotten so popular that you can even save on flights, pizza places and even online stores. Once you’ve chosen the offers you are interested in, you can save them to your virtual wallet where they’ll remain until you use them or they expire.Last but not least, I shared GoodRx, an app that helps you save hundreds and even thousands of dollars on your prescriptions. Here is something that many people don’t know, pharmacy prices for the very same prescriptions vary and the difference can be up to tens and even hundreds of dollars. This is why many people don’t know they can shop them around and save big money on prescription medications. When you go to the doctor and get a prescription, the doctor many times just sends it to the pharmacy near you electronically, the old-fashioned way is to just get a paper prescription and again, take it to the pharmacy near you. Many people that I’ve talked to don’t know that once the doctor prescribes a medicine to you, this prescription is now your property and you can shop it with any pharmacy, even if it was sent electronically. When you open the app, not only will you know which local pharmacy has the best prices for the prescription you need but it also provides you with coupons that can save you money on the spot. You just have to search the prescription name and hand the virtual coupon code to the pharmacist. It was great to be a part of this Primer Impacto segment. I use all these apps to save money and I hope you use them too!
