It’s that time of the year again and the kids are on their way back to school. Here are some gadgets that I’ve been testing and showcased on Despierta América.

Starting with the Livescribe 3 smart pen, this is the third generation of the ingeniously hybrid text recording pen. It comes with a free app for iPhone and iPad that adds functionality and unlocks some of its secrets. After a quick Bluetooth syncing, everything you type with the pen in its specially designed notebook, automatically appears on the iPad screen in real-time. The handwritten note can also be recognized and turned into computer text with a quick flick. This text can then be shared via e-mail, text message or stored in Dropbox or Evernote, which comes in handy for studying and note sharing across multiple devices. Another neat feature is that, if you choose to, audio is recorded at the same time while you are taking notes so you can remember the entirety of lectures given by your teacher. To check the notes, you just tap the text on the notebook and the audio will play back on the phone or tablet.

Germs have a lot of fun at schools, sticking to surfaces touched by hundreds of kids with all levels of hygiene. iShieldz RX is an innovative screen protector with patented Antimicrobial Silver Seal technology. What does this mean? Those germs don’t stand a chance living on these screen covers. This technology is currently used in hospitals for scratch, impact, and of course…germ protection.

If iPads are a part of your kid’s schools, it’s not a bad idea to have an actual keyboard. Enter the Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Folio for iPad Air and Mini. It connects to the iPad through a Bluetooth connection and it can’t possibly be simpler to use. The case is lightweight and protects the front and back of the iPad to help shield it from accidental bumps, scratches and spills. Additionally, the Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Folio comes in a number of fun colors for the fashion-conscious student.

Being sleepy in school and being able to take a quick nap is a luxury most students don’t have, unless you are college or preschool. The Ostrich Pillow offers a built-in warm and cozy climate that facilitates napping anywhere. It’s basically a wearable pillow that allows you to tuck your hands comfortably inside for a quick snooze on the go.

While the industry is still debating the safety of cell phone radiations, the reality is that they are real and that your head and body absorb over 50% of your smartphone’s transmitted signal during normal use. As a matter of fact, energy is absorbed even when the device is in your pocket or even in standby. Pong cases address this potential issue. The micro-thin gold-plated patented antenna redirects cellphone radiation away from the head and body, reducing exposure up to 82% below the FCC’s safety limit. And at the same time, your cellphone signal is increased by at least 24% according to the company. Each case is embedded with a patented, micro-thin, gold-plated antenna that automatically pairs with the antenna inside each device in order to redirect wireless energy away from the head and body. Not a bad trade off.

Backpacks are essential but this one packs a kick, the Energi+ has a removable 10,400mAh rechargeable Lithium-ion battery that can charge up to three devices at the same time. The Energi+ backpack also has over 1,450 cubic inches of internal space and 13 pockets. The backpack straps are extra-padded so that even when the bag is full of gadgets, laptops and books, it won't hurt young shoulders. The backpack strap also includes an NFC chip and has soft, protective spaces for your sunglasses and mobile
